SPRINGFIELD, MA.,-- Pioneer Valley Transit Authority Administrator Mary MacInnes, Federal, State and local officials gathered to re-open the PVTA’s newly enlarged and redesigned passenger waiting area of the bus terminal at 1776 Main Street in Springfield today.
“I am so pleased that we’ve been able to create a larger, more customer-friendly space for our passengers. This is a very active terminal for us and a large majority of PVTA riders come through this area on a daily basis. It was our goal to provide an improved space for everyone from parents with children, students, seniors and people heading to work “said Mary MacInnes, Administrator of the PVTA.
The 6-month renovation project included a number of improvements. The new, expanded passenger waiting area was freshly painted in PVTA colors, has new and additional seating, and state-of-the-art monitors that scroll schedule information and present other customer information. The area was also equipped with a new video monitoring system giving dispatchers greater visibility of arriving and departing buses. The PVTA installed new bus berth signs that clearly indicate the gate number in light reflecting adhesive, gate bumpers were painted and refurbished; new exterior signage was mounted on the building.
